Abstract

The objective of this study was to verify the extent to which subjects focus their attention, perception and memory in an intentional search for events mediated by time markers while carrying out the task of reading a "historical narrative text in English". This entailed observing the process of transforming the use of external markers or signs into the internal processes of mediation (mental representations of these signs) namely, the process of internalisation of concepts according to Vygotsky (1931). In this article I adopt the concept of reading of a historical narrative text as defined by van Dijk (1982) as the comprehension of a text in terms of its semantic structure composed of episodes or a sequence of propositions stored in memory.
