“Tristeza solidária”
um caminho wesleyano de compaixão e amor ao próximo para o problema do sofrimento

O presente ensaio discute o problema do sofrimento a partir da teologia do clérigo anglicano John Wesley (1703-1791). Em meio às adversidades da vida, como Wesley ajudaria a responder à questão: no sofrimento, quem é e onde está Deus? A hipótese deste texto é que o teólogo da Igreja da Inglaterra, por meio do que denominou de “tristeza solidária”, apresenta um caminho de cuidado aos que sofrem apresentando um Deus que é compassivo e imanente e que se manifesta em meio à compaixão e ao amor ao próximo. Nosso objetivo geral é apresentar um caminho wesleyano alternativo para o cuidado das pessoas em situação de vulnerabilidade e sofrimento. A pesquisa é bibliográfica, com metodologia exploratória. O pensamento de Wesley é extraído principalmente do seu sermonário, analisado a partir da versão bicentenária (WESLEY, 1984-1987).
